Recently I posted a flat lay of my mustard yellow pants. These pants are such a fun pop of color for fall! But, such a bold pant can be intimidating to style; which is why I like to create looks prior to wearing something like these pants. It helps me to create a log of how to wear my clothing. Typically, I like to pair neutral pieces with something bold like these pants- a good cream top with stripes or a navy top with lace florals. Stripes or lace florals add visual interest and dimension without making it too busy of a look. Busy can easily happen with bold pieces but, sticking with neutrals is a good rule of thumb for wearing with a bold pair of pants.
Another rule of thumb I love is, clash patterns match colors. If you have a floral print top that has a touch of mustard yellow you should definitely pair it with these pants! Currently, I do not have a top with touches of mustard in it. But, if I did this would be an outfit I would be creating right away!!! Navy looks great with mustard as does a good cream top. Pink is a current favorite for pairing with mustard yellow! If I ever struggle with which colors will pair well together I run to Pinterest and browse for ideas.
Layers are also a great way to create visual interest! Pairing the striped top with a vest or a scarf adds the perfect amount of dimension. Along with that, I love how lace florals add dimension without putting on more layers. Especially for California. This will be our first fall in California so, I am not totally sure what kind of clothing is typical. But I do know I want to dress for fall. A pair of short booties and the short sleeve floral top will be a perfect look for transitioning into the cooler temps of Northern California. Velvet or suede is also a fun way to add dimension. These Sam Edelman bow flats in pink suede are swoon-worthy and will look so cute with these skinny’s!
