I started BeachBody- 80 Day Obsession one month ago on March 2nd. Took my mid program photos on April 2nd.
How it all began with 80 day obsession
For the past four and a half years I was doing at home workout routines with FitnessBlender. As of late, I started to feel bored with the routines and felt it was time for a change. I don’t know if you are aware but, BeachBody is just about everywhere! You can find adds about it on any social media platform. I follow many people on Instagram who take part in 21 day fix or 80 day obsession. Along with that, I have been contacted quite a bit about joining different groups.
I always turned them down because truly, I enjoyed what I was doing. I enjoy FitnessBlender and see results when I use it. But, it was time for a change. An old college roommate of mine became a coach and of course seeing her do it made me feel the most comfortable with taking the plunge!
When beginning this program I was at a place of feeling really yucky. I had let my love for food take over and wasn’t exercising regularly. I tend to be an all or nothing person. If I stop working out, I will stop eating as healthy. When I am really active and working hard I make better choices with what I put into my body. Which is why having a workout set for me six days a week is great for keeping myself on track!
One month in
Work Load: I am now one month in with two months to go! It is hard work! I am sore pretty much always which is both annoying and great all wrapped in one! It’s a great reminder of my body being pushed passed comfort and a constant reminder that change is taking place.
Commitment: The commitment is something of great importance; especially for the 80 challenge. It’s six days a week and varies in length from 30min-60min. It is designed to be done consecutively. Honestly, this is the best way to get the best results. With that said, life happens. I missed three days of the first month. I started to feel badly about that. But, decided against that and went with it’s okay! Life happens! Just keep going!
Non Scale victory
Currently, I am sitting at a non scale victory. Actually, a few non scale victories! In just one month of doing BeachBody- 80 day obsession I have lost a total 8 inches for my entire body. The biggest thing is that my raincoat was so tight around my hips that I couldn’t zip it anymore. I wore my raincoat yesterday and it zips again!!! I lost 1.5in from my hips. This is the first place I gain when I’m not eating as I should or exercising. So, needless to say I was so happy to have lost inches in that area!
Taking before and after pictures as well as measuring yourself is huge when looking for changes! The scale is not the only place to find a victory. I have only lost 2lbs. But, that is actually perfect because the inches lost, clothes fitting better, and before/after photos are enough to say, yes! This is working and all the dedication is paying off.
Where to look for affirmation
I know I am gaining muscle which weighs more than fat. The scale isn’t always the best place to look for affirmation. In fact, two pounds for a months worth of really hard work seems kind of irritating! If I was going solely of the scale I’d feel defeated. I’m currently sitting at 2 lbs over my typical weight. Yet, I feel happy with my weight because of the other factors. The scale is irrelevant. I feel so much better. I have more energy, I am happier, and my clothes fit as if I hadn’t gained any weight.
I’ve started caring about my nutrition again once having started 80 day obsession. However, I did not go crazy with discipline. During the first month I enjoyed alcoholic beverages, had a burger/fries on occasion, and enjoyed dessert here and there! There is a nutrition program to follow which I am 100% sure would give you even more results. But, honestly once I reign myself in I feel pretty confident in the foods and portions I consume.
BUT….I did make better overall choices. Eating veggies is super important! There are so many benefits to vegetables! Typically, I try to get 4-5 servings of veggies a day. Two of them are put in my smoothie each day! Hiding them helps a ton. hehe!
Nutrition is key! However, changes take place without having to cut all the “fun” stuff out. It’s about balance and knowing when to stop yourself from overeating. Something I struggle with. I love to indulge and don’t like to tell myself I can’t have certain foods. But, my self control is slim. So, I just don’t buy the stuff I can’t say no to. Or if I do buy it I go in with the mindset of it’s okay, eat it all. Working at not making yourself feel bad for enjoying food is so important! Again it’s all about balance. Enjoy the fun stuff. But, in moderation. It isn’t about being a party pooper or being the life of the party when it comes to food. It’s about listening to your body and being the healthiest version you can be.
If you’ve been around for a bit you might have read my post from about two years ago when I got down to 135lb. On a really superficial level…I love that number. It feels like a good weight for my height. Based on what? I’m not sure…I guess society saying women should be 125lb?! So silly!!! But, honestly that wasn’t realistic. I had to workout and really eat minimally to maintain that weight. My husband thought I was too skinny and really, I was. I like to sit at about 140. But, lately have been at 144. I started the program at 146.
Who cares about the scale
In the past if anyone would ask me how much I weigh, I’d say 145lb. They’d say, what?! No, way you way that much! Something that always bothered me. Like 145lb is big…it’s not! 200lb isn’t either! Weight really doesn’t matter. It’s about far more than the number. After all our bodies have a brain, bones, intestines, eyeballs, hair, a bladder…all these things have weight! Something I have been working on remembering, probably for far too long. Getting out of my head and trying to pressure myself to be what I think society wants me to be.
Really, I am still at the start of BeachBody-80 day obsession! Only 1/3 of the way in…Two months left and so excited for what’s to come. It has been hard and finding time to workout for an hour is a lot for me. I like 30min or less. haha! But, it’s causing change and I love that! So glad to have taken the leap and started 80 day obsession. I’ll do another check in at the end of month two and again once the entire 80 day obsession program is finished!
